INPUTS:
Participation and Collaboration in Educational Resource Development Project (Project PACED)
Project PACED includes a week-long summer intensive in sequencing the new fully aligned CCLS units for mathematics as guided by the DOE supports. Project PACED will review instructional resources and develop initial CCLS unit aligned performance based tasks for testing grades 3 – 8. Project PACED will continue throughout the school year meeting weekly to continue to develop all unit resources for all testing grades as guided by the DOE supports. Project PACED is a collaboration of Secondary and Elementary Math Assistant Principals, Math Grade Leaders and Math Coaches.
OUTCOMES:
Knowledge:
What new knowledge will be generated?
School math leaders in Project PACED will be fully immersed in Math CCLS units of study and scope and sequence. By reviewing and developing performance tasks for each standard in each unit of study, PACED participants will gain a deeper foundational knowledge and understanding of the complexity and rigor of the Math CCLS. PACED participants will be able to lead their charge in meeting the CIE in mathematics.
Impact:
What changes in practice are expected from the generation of this knowledge? How will you know the objective evidence and established benchmarks?
Expected changes in practice:
To date, publishers and/or state/city resources have not built a comprehensive CCLS task bank aligned to the rigor and conceptual mathematics of the Math CCLS and Practice Standards. Project PACED will develop the unit aligned task resources and supplemental resources needed for the teachers and teacher teams in meeting the CIE’s for unit development. Having these resources on hand, teachers will be able to concentrate on the needed conceptual mathematics and shifts to ensure the demands of the CCLS are met.
Follow-up cohorts will meet quarterly to ensure that these tasks and resources are integrated into their unit plans.
Systems and tools for evaluating progress and informing adjustments:
Benchmarks:
Project PACED will have developed the first unit of resources and tasks for testing grades 3 – 8 to be rolled-out on August 28th. All testing grades will have a comprehensive resource and task bank aligned to each unit of study as outlined by the DOE for the entire scope and sequence of school year 2012 – 2013 for testing grades 3 – 8.
